October 10th 2022 – BRANDON MS – The City of Brandon will have a Special Election Tuesday October 11th 2022, to fill the current vacancy of Alderman in Ward 6. The Ward 6 Alderman vacancy was created when former Alderman Ms Tahya Dobbs resigned in August 2022. More information regarding her vacancy is available by CLICKING HERE.
It is important that registered voters in Ward 6 get out and vote in this Special Election. The City of Brandon Ward lines were changed slightly a year or so ago, so please be sure to pay attention to what Ward you may be in. If you’re in doubt, please go to the polling station at City Hall on election day, to be sure. The following is a graphic showing an updated Ward 6, with the barrier roads notated.
There are two candidates on the ballot for Alderman Ward 6: Mr David E Farris and Mr Michael (Mike) Mann. The polling location is inside the City of Brandon Municipal Building (City Hall), located at 1000 Municipal Drive, Brandon MS 39042. Voting hours are from 7am CT to 7pm CT on Tuesday October 11th 2022.
Alderman Ward 6 is one of six (6) Wards here in our City. The six Ward Alderman and the Alderman At-Large are the primary government officials for our city, along with our Mayor. As such, this is a very important position within our community. The Aldermen vote upon and set policy for the city, while the Mayor and staff apply those policies and handle day to day operations of our city. The winner of this Special Election will fulfill the term of Alderman for Ward 6, which will end in June 2025. The winner may also choose to run for re-election as the Ward 6 incumbent at that time.
