August 17th 2022 – BRANDON MS – At the recent City of Brandon Board Meeting on Monday August 15th 2022, Mayor Butch Lee announced that Ward 6 Alderman Tahya Dobbs had tendered her resignation.
Upon making the announcement, Ms Dobbs spoke for a couple minutes, to the Board and citizens of Brandon. Ms Dobbs explained that life circumstances have changed since last year’s election, including the addition of 3 grandchildren. As such, she is moving to a new house outside the city limits. She spoke of good things in the future and how much she is looking forward to continuing to promote the City of Brandon.
Mayor Lee then added that the City will officially announce the vacancy at the next Board Meeting, which is expected to be Monday August 29th 2022. At that meeting, it is expected that a Special Election will be announced to fill the pending vacancy, which will likely be held by the City on Tuesday October 11th 2022.
Brandon042® plans to publish information and bios on all candidates who declare their candidacy for this potential special election, after the candidates have made their announcements.
It’s important to note that our city’s ward lines were recently changed, so the ward lines look slightly different than in the previous election cycle. We are including two pictures related to wards in this article. One picture is of the entire city and its 6 wards. The second picture is of Ward 6, with some boundary streets noted in the graphic.
